Zanzibar’s coastal identity takes centre stage on “Mabinti wa Kizanzibar,” a new Bongo Flava release from Tanzanian new-generation artist Fany, also known as Khalfan Ali Rashid.

Released on October 1, 2026, the song translates to “Zanzibari Girls” and celebrates women from the Zanzibar archipelago. Fany highlights qualities associated with Zanzibari women, including beauty, elegance, modesty, gentle character, and traditional values.

Produced by Devy Marchods, the record pairs contemporary Bongo Flava with coastal musical influences. Warm melodic keys, guitar touches and crisp percussion give the song a relaxed mid-tempo character while keeping its Tanzanian identity firmly in place.

Beyond its musical appeal, “Mabinti wa Kizanzibar” carries a strong cultural focus. Fany uses the song to spotlight Zanzibar’s people and traditions through a contemporary sound, giving the tribute a form that can connect with younger listeners.

The release also comes as Fany continues to draw attention to Zanzibari music, including a meeting with Joseph Kusaga, CEO of Clouds Media Group, to discuss opportunities for expanding the visibility of music from the islands across East Africa.

Listen to “Mabinti wa Kizanzibar” by Fany and enjoy a contemporary celebration of Zanzibari women and culture.
